Press Release: Chiesi advances its Carbon Minimal Inhaler journey as European submissions for its Single Inhaler Triple Therapy (SITT) and ICS/LABA combination next-generation propellant pMDIs are validated

Chiesi has achieved the latest milestone in its Carbon Minimal Inhaler journey with the validation of regulatory submissions in Europe for its Single Inhaler Triple Therapy (SITT) and ICS/LABA combination next-generation propellant pressurised metered-dose inhaler (pMDIs). This announcement follows the recent news from the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) who have approved the Company’s beclometasone pMDI formulated with HFA-152a, the first UK approval of this next-generation propellant in this format.

The start of the EU regulatory assessment is another significant step towards Chiesi’s ambition to transition its broad pMDI range to a next-generation propellant, HFA-152a, which has the potential to reduce lifecycle carbon footprint by up to 90% compared with current formulations. Chiesi’s Carbon Minimal Inhaler journey is a key part of the Company’s part of its broader ambition to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across its full value chain by 2035, making Chiesi the first pharmaceutical company globally to adopt such a target across its full value chain, 15 years ahead of the European Climate Neutrality target.
